How to Book an Appointment

To book on appointment you can book the following ways –

1 Pharmacy & Self-Care

Your pharmacy can advise you on minor illness without the need of an appointment. Please speak to a pharmacist first.

Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals who can offer clinical advice, over the counter medicines and their use, to effectively and safely manage a range of minor health concerns. They can also help you to decide whether you’ll need to see a doctor. You don’t need an appointment and you won’t even be asked to make a purchase. Every pharmacy also has a private consultation area for you to talk about your symptoms in private if you prefer.

2 How to Book a Routine Appointment

A percentage of appointments can be booked up to 2 weeks in advance to see a GP of your choice or up to 4 weeks in advance if your usual doctor is one of the Partners.

We also have a percentage of appointments which are available to book 48 hours in advance.

Your routine appointment will allow you to spend 10 minutes with the doctor. If you have a number of problems, the doctor may not be able to deal with all of them during this time and may ask you to book another appointment. This will avoid delaying patients waiting to see the doctor after you.

Ways To Book
  • Request an an appointment online using Health Copilot
  • Use the NHS app

3 Emergency Appointments

If you have a medical emergency that cannot wait until the next routine appointment is available, you will be asked to come down to the practice.

You will be booked in with either the on-call doctor or nurse practitioner (depending on the nature of the problem).Whilst every effort will be made to see you as quickly as possible there could be a wait of up to 2 hours. Unfortunately we are unable to offer medical emergency appointments to fit in around work or school commitments.

We run an emergency only service at weekends and we are therefore unable to provide telephone advice. Please contact 111 if you require telephone advice at weekends.

4 NHS 111

If you have an urgent need which is not life-threatening.

NHS 111 health advisors are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to help you get the right medical attention for your needs.

Life Threatening - Go to A & E

If you or someone you know has a life-threatening condition, such as loss of consciousness, chest pain, breathing difficulties etc, you should call 999

In an EMERGENCY call 999.
Emergencies are situations that cannot be managed at home and may be life threatening

* All calls made to Teldoc phone numbers are recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

How to cancel an appointment

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please give us as much notice as possible so that your appointment can be offered to someone else.

If you are cancelling please telephone us as soon as possible, and at least 30 minutes before your appointment time. This will enable us to offer your appointment to someone else.

Alternatively you can cancel your appointment online using Health Copilot. You can cancel by going to Appointments and selecting Cancel or Rearrange an appointment. You can also cancel using the NHS app on the appointment reminder you have received.

Please remember that there may be a shortage of appointments and when you fail to attend you have prevented someone else from being seen in your place. On average about 230 appointments are missed each month

Cancellations notified less than 30 minutes before the appointment time will be recorded as failure to attend (DNA).

Repeated failure to attend booked appointments is a significant waste of NHS resources. Please see Missed Appointments for more information.

Why does the call handler need to ask what is wrong with me?

Our care navigator staff are important members of the practice team, and it has been agreed that they should ask patients “why they need to be seen”. We have trained our call centre staff to ask certain questions to help make sure that you receive the most appropriate medical care, from the most appropriate healthcare professional, at the most appropriate time

Enhanced access appointment

The service offers patients appointment times on the evenings and weekends at Teldoc Lawley, Farriers Green, Lawley, Telford, TF3 2LL.

If you are registered at our surgery, the following appointments are available to you:

  • 6:30pm-8pm, Monday to Friday
  • 9am-5pm Saturday

This is not the same as the out of hours 111 service which will remain in place.

To take advantage of these appointments, you need to pre-book by contacting the surgery.

You must be the person attending the appointment when you book (you cannot ask someone to book on your behalf unless it is for a child or you are recorded as having permission to act on their behalf). Appointments are limited in number and are on a first come first served basis.

This new service is in addition to our appointment system and our service to you remains unchanged.

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Home visits

You can request a home visit by using our online consultation system

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 11:00.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. We have a dedicated Home Visiting team of paramedics, who are supported by our GPs if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
